A teacher’s viral post in Bacoor National High School in Cavite showing a toilet room being converted to a faculty room has encouraged more teachers to show their plight to the public.
Danilo Lumabas, a social studies teacher in Felipe Calderon Integrated High School in Manila posted on Thursday his table on top of a toilet bowl.
The school’s faculty is also a converted rest room.
“Oo. Table ko itong napanood ninyo sa TV. Dating cubicle ito ng CR. Sa ilang taon, natutunan na namin dito na mag-adapt. Nalampasan na namin ang mga panahon na nagtatanong kami kung bakit ganito,” Lumabas said in an interview.
Another teacher from Sorsogon showed a group photo with teachers at the faculty room which is also a converted restroom.
“Ang CR naming faculty room. Dalawang department po sa school namin ang CR ang faculty room. Hindi po kami nagdadrama. Wala po kaming choice. Wala po kaming laboratory rooms. Kung hindi kami ang mag-initiate wala kaming mapapala,” Teacher Kare Apolan said.
Photos from different schools gathered by Teachers’ group Alliance of Concerned Teachers also showed a number of restrooms turned faculty rooms.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones earlier said that the Bacoor faculty situation is an isolated incident and that the teacher who first uploaded the photo of their faculty room situation is only turning things “dramatic” to gain media attention.
Teachers’ groups slammed the comment and called out the Secretary’s insensitivity to their plight.
Hi, I’m from Sorsogon however the school that I taught from is in Manila. Also, its Karen Apoloan, not Kare Apolan.
Next time, I would appreciate if you will get permission to feature the post first before publishing the article. Thank you. 🙂
