The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Zakat and Tax (GAZT) has announced that it has approved a measure imposing a 100% tax on electronic cigarettes and liquids used in smoking.
Aside from the excise tax on electronic smoking, authorities will also impose a 50% levy on drinks that are high in sugar.
The announcement is part of the broadening of excise duty on similar products including energy drinks which was enforced in June 2017.
The implementation of the new taxes will be announced by the authority shortly.
