Wynwyn Marquez to use an interpreter in pageant

Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas representative Wynwyn Marquez has revealed that she will use an interpreter in this year’s pageant in Santa Monica, Bolivia.

In an interview with Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP), 25-year-old Marquez said the organizers offered an interpreter as they expected that she is not fluent in Spanish.

“Sinabihan ako na it’s impossible for me to speak fluent Spanish. Actually, sila mismo ang nagsabi. Inunahan na kami na they will provide an interpreter,” PEP quoted Marquez.

Marquez said an interpreter would help her clearly express her answers.

“A lot of people now are expecting me to answer in Spanish, but I wouldn’t want to risk it. Kapag mali yung isang word, iba na kasi. Baka ma-offend ko pa sila. Siyempre, gusto kong ma-express yung gusto kong sagot,” she said.

Marquez added that in preparation for the pageant, she is polishing her strut and poses, so she could grab the attention of the judges in the  Hispanic-dominated pageant.

“Ang preparations ko is how I walk. Iibahin ko kasi yung walk ko. May something to spicen up a bit. Ang mga Latina kasi kapag nag-perform, iba. So kailangan ng something na different—the way I look, my makeup, my hair,” she shared.

The country’s representative for Reina Hispanoamericana will fly on October 19 to Bolivia in preparation for the pageant.

This is the first time the Philippines will join the pageant, which celebrates Hispanic culture, heritage, language, and culture.
