A Filipina household service worker (HSW) in Saudi Arabia was executed after being convicted of murder, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed on Thursday, January 31.
Ambassador Adnan Alonto said that Saudi authorities carried out the sentence against the 39-year-old Filipina who was earlier found guilty of murder after the Saudi Supreme Judicial Council classified her case as one in which blood money does not apply under Shariah law.
DFA said that the Filipina received support from the Philippine government through the Embassy which provided her with a lawyer to assist her in all stages of her trial, sent representatives to visit her, and provided her family in the Philippines with regular updates about her case.
The family of Filipina has been informed of the news and requested to withhold the identity of the deceased for privacy during their time of bereavement.
The foreign affairs department also extended its condolences to the family.
