30 undocumented OFWs from Abu Dhabi return home

Thirty undocumented overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Abu Dhabi, UAE arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Tuesday, July 10.

Representatives and officials from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) welcomed the undocumented OFWs from Abu Dhabi aboard Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight PR 657.

Some of them overstayed their UAE visas while others are still minors, reported The Manila Bulletin.

A number of them served jail term for various offenses before their repatriation.

The repatriated OFWs will not receive Php5,000 cash assistance from the government, according to OWWA, but are eligible for the livelihood assistance worth Php22,000 under OWWA’s Balik Pinas, Balik Hanap-Buhay program.

Those who could not immediately return home for different reasons were allowed to seek shelter at OWWA Center in Pasay City. The rest received transportation allowance.

Last month (June), 100 distressed OFWs from the UAE were also repatriated by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
