Sen. Panfilo Lacson on Sunday criticized Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano for continuing to question the legitimacy of the June 3 Senate session that resulted in the election of Acting Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian.
In a post on X, Lacson appeared to mock Cayetano’s repeated Facebook Live broadcasts, writing: “When you’re strong on the law, pound the law. When you’re strong on the facts, pound the facts. When you’re weak on both… mag-Facebook live ka na lang.”
The remark came after Cayetano again claimed during a Facebook Live broadcast on Saturday that the June 3 Senate session was “bogus,” “fake,” and illegitimate.
In a separate post, Lacson questioned Cayetano’s continued claim to Senate leadership, noting that the Executive Department, the House of Representatives, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, legal scholars, and former Senate presidents have recognized Gatchalian’s leadership.
The dispute stems from the June 3 session where 12 senators elected Gatchalian as Senate President Pro Tempore and designated him as acting Senate president amid an ongoing leadership conflict in the chamber.
Malacañang has since said it recognizes only Gatchalian’s leadership, while the Integrated Bar of the Philippines has described the June 3 Senate session as lawful and valid.
The exchange marks the latest escalation in the continuing leadership row that has divided the Senate in recent weeks.
