Dubai International Airport has launched a departure clearance scheme using travelers’ smartphones instead of their passports or express cards at the airport’s smart gates.
The scheme called “Emirates Smart Wallet” initiative seeks to streamline travel system across the airport and reduce travel clearing procedures to between 9 and 12 seconds per passenger, Zawya said.
The scheme works as the UAE Wallet app links travelers’ personal data, Emirates ID, passport information, and e-gate card data.
The smart travel scheme is currently available at the airport’s Terminal 3, but it will be operational in all terminals after the wallet is linked to other airlines.
The “Emirates Smart Wallet” initiative is the latest innovation by the DIA to improve service and travel experience at the airport.
Earlier this month, the “Sleep ‘N Fly” sleeping lounge facility was opened at the Terminal 3. The lounge features 27 sleeping pods in a bid to provide comfort to its passengers.
