Filipinos in the UAE will no longer have to pay extra aviation charges when booking flights with the UAE-based carrier, Emirates.
The good news was announced by a spokesperson from the company who recently talked to Gulf News.
The decision was based on migrant laws under the Philippine constitution implying that Filipinos who are based abroad should not be obliged to pay the local travel tax and other terminal fees.
A copy of one’s overseas employment certificate (OEC) would have to be presented, however, during booking or before departure to validate eligibility for tax-exemption
“Emirates complies with all relevant legislation within the Philippines. Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who book flights with Emirates, and hold a valid OEC are entitled to a Philippine travel tax and terminal fees exemption, which is processed at the time of ticketing or can be claimed at the airport prior to departure,” the spokesperson told the media outlet.
Those who fall under the parameters of this new order can save up to Dh200 or around 5% off of the average ticket prices going back to UAE per passenger. – ALD
