Dubai municipality has banned disposable phone chargers due to its adverse effects on the environment and finances of users.
Redha Salman, director of the municipality’s health and safety department, said the chargers would only pose additional environmental waste since it can only be used once, a report from The National read.
It also won’t be a smart choice to users who will opt to buy such device in the long run.
“They are also increasing the quantity of electronic waste in the general waste, which constitutes an environmental burden,” Salman said.
“The municipality calls upon all establishments in the emirate not to import or sell any disposable and non-rechargeable one-time use mobile phone chargers,” he added.
Shops were given one month to return the chargers to where they imported it.
Salman also said this move also aims to include citizens in the municipality’s goal to raise awareness on environmental safety.
