Sharjah fire causes 1 dead, 3 injured

A ship loaded with petroleum caught fire in Sharjah’s Hamriyah port killing one and leaving 3 burned.

The Hamriyah Free Zone Administration confirmed the death of one worker while the three injured were taken to Kuwait Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, where they are now in stable condition.

Reports say that the fire broke out inside an oil-carrying vessel bearing the Panama flag.

Firefighters and rescue teams were instantly deployed in the scene of the blaze and were able to extinguish the fire within an hour.

Col. Sami Al Naqbi, Director-General of Sharjah Civil Defence lauded the firefighters’ quick response which prevented the fire from spreading to commercial areas inside the port.

He also commended the Civil Defence teams from Ajman and Umm Al Quwain who assisted in the operation.

Col. Al Naqbi, assured local residents and establishments in the area that incidents like this happen all over the world later detailing procedures to control and deal with fires such as this.
