The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA) has raised the alert level of Bicol’s Bulusan Volcano from Level 0 (normal) to Level 1 (abnormal) as of 4:00 pm, Philippine time (12:00pm UAE time).
Authorities recorded 53 volcanic earthquakes since July 3 along with 43 low-frequency events in the past few days, citing possibilities of phreatic eruptions from the crater.
“The increased seismicity could be succeeded by steam-driven or phreatic eruptions at the summit crater or from flank vents on the upper to middle slopes, despite the absence of visible degassing or steaming from the active vent this year,” said the report from PAG-ASA.

PAG-ASA advised local government units as well as the public that entry within the 4-kilometre Permanent Danger Zone is strictly prohibited. They also advise those living in the Extended Danger Zone should be vigilant and be aware of sudden hazardous eruptions.
The agency has also advised civil aviation officials to avoid flying close to the area.
