France has revealed that 70 new cases of the coronavirus disease was reported among schools last week, following the reopening of educational institutions in the country.
France Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer stated that finding new cases of the disease was ‘inevitable’ but that the number was a small proportion compared to the 1.4 million school kids who returned to their classes.
“It’s inevitable this sort of thing will happen. In almost all cases, this [transmission] has happened outside of the school,” said Blanquer in a report from French radio station RTL.
The education minister stressed that the reopening follows stringent measures, including a maximum of 10 students for preschools, and 15 students for other age groups. He also stated that all schools who had COVID-19 cases were immediately closed.
Blanquer furthers that sending children to school right now would avoid a generation of the youth who lack proper education, while sidelining COVID-19 risks.
“There will be terrible damage if we lose a generation of children who have been stopped from going to school for several months,” said Blanquer as per reports from The Guardian.
