Philhealth to shoulder COVID-19 patient’s bill amounting to Php2.8 million

Philippine Health Insurance Corp. President Ricardo Morales revealed that the agency will be shouldering a patient’s bill who tested for the coronavirus disease or COVID-19 amounting to Php2.8 million.

Morales said that the move is proof on the state insurance’s promise to fund the bills for COVID-19 patients.

“So far ang mataas na sasagutin . . . mga P2.8 million. Hindi pa siya nadi-discharge. Sasagutin ng PhilHealth ‘yan,” Morales told ABS-CBN News.

Philhealth said that they will pay for the hospital bills of COVID-19 patients until the end of the enhanced community quarantine on April 14.

After April 14, Philhealth said that they will release a case rate for COVID-19 patients.

“Wala pa tayong case rate, bago kasi itong COVID-19 na ito. Iba talaga ‘yung gamot na gagamitin panglunas ano. By April 14, meron na tayong datos. Confident na tayo na may case rate,” he said.

The Philhealth chief also assured the public that the coverage will be for both patients from the public and private hospitals.

“Lahat ire-reimburse ng PhilHealth ‘yon,” Morales said. The Philhealth president said that hospitals should not bill patients because the agency is tasked to pay for it under the law.

Morales said that if the patient already paid for his or her bill, he can reimburse it to the agency and show the receipt that he has been treated for the virus.
