Government officials in the Philippines have been repeatedly urging people to stay at home to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
However, in Barangay Ermita in Cebu City, several individuals had to learn to heed this call the hard way after they were caught by barangay officials and the police loitering on the streets even during the curfew hours.
The punishment they got?
They were made to sit in the air.
Photos of these young adults went viral after it was posted last Thursday (March 19) by barangay councilor Efe Rupinta.
In her post, she said this is just among the punishments.
Another sanction is to bring these violators at the police station and get a four-hour lecture about coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
“Ayaw tawn mi hagita. Palihug lang.
Cooperate tawn ta (Don’t challenge us. Please. Cooperate with us),” she added.
The Cebu City Government has been implementing a strict curfew from 8pm – 5am as part of its community quarantine measures.
Barangay Captain Mark Miral told The Filipino Times that these individuals have been repeatedly violating their request.
“Dili na sila minor mga gahi kaayo ug mga ulo bisan sa kadaghan namo ug balik2x ug hatag ug info nga dili na manggawas kun motongtong na ang oras sa alas 8 (They’re no longer minors yet they won’t listen to us even if we keep on telling them not to go out once it is 8 p.m.),” he said.
Miral together with tanods and policemen continue to roam around at night, reminding people of what they should do.
There’s also a separate 24-hour curfew being implemented in the city that prohibits elderly aged 65 and above and those below 18 not to go out of their houses.
Netizens who saw the post say those who are hard-headed deserve the punishment.
