San Miguel revives Nutribun for COVID-19 affected communities

Food and beverage giant San Miguel Corporation (SMC) is reviving the vitamin-packed Nutribun for communities where access to food is hampered because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
SMC bared that its version of the Nutribun is packed with nutrients and has 250 calories per bun and will be distributed to hardest-hit families amid the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.
“This is safe, sufficient and nutritious food for the hardest-hit families facing hunger as a result of the COVID-19 crisis,” SMC president and COO Ramon Ang said.

Nutribun, which was introduced in the 1970s, was primarily allocated to students in public elementary schools to reduce child malnutrition in the country.
“We will continue to step up and find creative ways to help the neediest and most vulnerable. Panic will not solve anything. We have the means, we just have to work together to win this battle,” he said.
The first batch of the bread will be given to Caritas Manila.

According to SMC, the distribution of food packs has commenced on cities and hospitals in Metro Manila, these include the Philippine General Hospital, the Philippine Children’s Medical Center, Quirino Memorial Medical Center, Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center, St. Luke’s Medical Center, The Medical City, Mandaluyong City, Parañaque City, Eastern Police District, Northern Police District, and Camp Karingal.
Earlier the company said it will utilize one of its plants to produce alcohol that will be provided to frontliners on government’s effort to stop the spread of COVID-19.
