President Rodrigo Duterte will be staying in Manila during the month-long quarantine of Metro Manila to prevent the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) according to Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo on Friday.
Panelo said the Duterte cabinet will regularly hold meetings to assess the COVID-19 situation.
“Yes, he announced it last night that his wife wanted him to fly back (to Davao) but he said ‘no, the face of the country is Manila and the President had to be here so I’ll be here,'” Panelo said.
The President is stable after he was confirmed negative for COVID-19.
Duterte declared that Metro Manila would be placed under “community quarantine,” which will prohibit travel to and from the region starting March 15 until April 14.
“The President had to undertake stringent measures because he’s expecting a spike, he wants to see how effective these measures would be,” Panelo added.
