Action star Robin Padilla has issued a statement underscoring he is not supporting efforts to block the renewal of the franchise of ABS CBN.
In a statement posted by the media giant, Padilla said, “Hindi po. Katapusan ng Pelikulang Pilipino ‘yan. Bakit ako… Hindi ko ganoon. Wala hong ganoon.”
“Iyong sa akin, ang punto ko lang, ito ang oras na pwede nating ilabas lahat,” he added.
Padilla had several shows with the network.
Earlier, he denied that he had turned his back at the Kapamilya network.
Padilla explained that he was calling for “equal treatment under the law.”
In a Facebook posted on February 12, 2020, he said, “Sabi daw ng netizens nilaglag ko daw ang network ko. Wow! Mga kababayan kahit na sino kahit kaibigan ko kapatid ko kapamilya ko at kamag anak ko kapag lumabag ka sa batas dapat kang magbayad sa batas dahil ako nagbayad ako ng tatlong taon sa loob ng kulungan/piitan/bilibid dahil nagbayad ako sa kasalanan ko.”
The actor, a known supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte, was present at the Senate hearing on the franchise of ABS-CBN with fellow actor Philip Salvador.
Solicitor General Jose Calida had filed a quo warranto petition before the Supreme Court for alleged “abusive practices.”
The Senate conducted a hearing on Monday to tackle the network’s franchise, which expires in March 2020.
Duterte, in the past, repeatedly threatened that the franchise of the network would not be renewed as he claimed unfair treatment of him during the 2016 presidential campaign.
