The Japan Health Ministry has confirmed that two passengers from the Diamond Princess cruise shop have died due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The two fatalities, an 87-year-old man and an 84-year-old woman, both Japanese, died on Thursday.
NHK reported that the two had underlying health problems.
The news about the two fatalities comes after the ship has started allowing passengers to leave the ship after the two-week quarantine period.
As of Thursday, 624 confirmed cases are recorded from the ship. 40 of them are Filipino workers on board.
