A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck east of Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental late Thursday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
The earthquake that was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus 47 kilometers struck at 9:40 p.m.
PHIVOLCS initially stated that the magnitude of the quake was 6.4. It was downgraded to 6.1 less than hour later.
The PHIVOLCS recorded Intensity III in Davao City, General Santos City, and Alabel, Sarangani, while Intensity II was felt in Magsaysay, Davao Del Sur.
No damage to property was immediately reported but aftershocks are expected.
