Former Maguindanao Governor and Congressman Toto Mangudadatu believed that the Ampatuans should be sentenced with death penalty.
“Ang gusto ko nga talagang bitay, lalo na ‘yang si Unsay pati ‘yung magkakapatid dahil grabe ang ginagawa nila. Hindi lang Maguindano massacare ang ginawa niyan,” Mangudadatu told reporters in Camp Bagong Diwa on Thursday.
The Quezon City Regional Trial Court has found Datu Andal Unsay Ampatuan, Jr, Zaldy Ampatuan, Anwar Ampatuan, Sr., others guilty of 57 counts of murder, sentenced to Reclusion Perpetua
“‘Yung mga major crimes na katulad ng ganyan at ‘yung mga rape, itong mga drugs na sobrang dami ng pumapasok sa atin,” he said.
Capital punishment was abolished in 2006. But Mangudadatu expressed his desire to support the reinstatement of death penalty in 18th Congress.
“Kung hindi nakadroga sina Unsay, kung hindi nakadroga silang magkakapatid pati ‘yung tatay, gagawin ba nila ‘yun? Walang iiwan? Gagalawin ba nila ‘yung mga babae? Malaya naman tayo eh, nasa demokrasya tayo bakit ginawa ‘yun?” he added.
Mangudadatu lost his wife along with her sisters, and political supporters, in the gruesome massacre tagged as the most violent political-related incident in the Philippines. During that time, he challenged the powerful Ampatuan clan for the gubernatorial post in Maguindanao for the 2010 elections.
