Rape survivor who was set on fire in India dies in hospital

The rape victim in India was set on fire by five men this week has succumbed to her injuries in the hospital, Friday night.

“She died at 11.40 pm. She suffered a cardiac arrest; the doctor tried to resuscitate, but she could not survive,” Dr Shalab Kumar, Head of Burns and Plastic Department, told Indian media ANI.

The 23 year-old woman was on her way to ride a train for a court hearing she filed early this year when the five men put her ablaze.

The suspects identified as Shubham, Shivam, Harishankar, Umesh and Ram Kishore reportedly attacked the woman and put kerosene on her.

She suffered 90 percent burns on her body, and she was immediately brought to the hospital.

However, her body succumbed to the injuries days after the burning incident.
