A frequent air traveler pretending to be a pilot to enjoy preferential treatment at airports has been arrested.
Rajan Mahbubani wore the uniform of a Lufthansa pilot apparently to fool airport workers so that he can get through security lanes and enjoy ugrades on seats.
He was however caught at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday evening this week.
The Indian man was seen dressed in a pilot’s uniform as he tried to board an AirAisa flight.
Airport’s deputy commissioner of police Sanjay Bhatia told CNN that a Lufthansa employee had alerted offiicials that a man was impersonating as Lufthansa airline pilot.
AirAsia had also called Lufthansa to verify the man’s identity. The man is now currently being detained in New Delhi.
“After his arrest, Mahbubani told us he used to shoot YouTube and TikTok videos on aviation and had obtained the Lufthansa fake ID card in Thailand,” airport official said.
He is now charged with cheating and impersonating . He could also face a year’s imprisonment and pay fines or both.
