Shark feeds on tourist celebrating wife’s 40th birthday

A British man who was celebrating his wife’s 40th birthday was reportedly eaten by a shark while he was swimming in a lagoon.

The tourist identifed as Richard Martyn Turner, from Edinburgh, was snorkelling by himself in waters off the Reunion Island, in the Indian Ocean when the incident happened, according to a report by The Daily Mail.

Four sharks were caught after the incident, according to Scottish media.

Sources have confirmed the death of the 44-year-old man after his hand and forearm were found in the stomach of a tiger shark.

The animal was 13 feet long. The woman had positively identified her husband’s body parts through his wedding ring, reports said.

DNA tests were being conducted to make sure that the other remains belong to Turner. The three other sharks were also being examined.

The incident took place on November 2. The lagoon was deemed safe by locals for swimmers.

UK authorities have yet to release a statement on the shark-man-eating incident.
