House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano has revealed that he has issues with ABS-CBN’s bid to renew the franchise of ABS-CBN.
The broadcasting network’s franchise is up for renewal as it is set to expire on March 30, 2020.
Cayetano expressed reservations on the air time given to vice presidential candidates during the 2016 campaign trail.
“Narinig niyo na sa ating Pangulo, ako mismo. Apat kaming naimbitahan na vice president candidate sa DZMM. Yung isa, nilabas sa 6:30 news, sa Bandila, sa Umagang kay Ganda, and lunchtime. Yung dalawa sa amin, DZMM and then Bandila. Yung isa sa amin, DZMM, hindi lumabas sa iba. So may mga katanungan kami o issues,” Cayetano said.
The House Speaker was a former running mate of the Davao City Mayor and now President Rodrigo Duterte.
Cayetano said the committess handling the franchise can hear the renewal but it’s not a congressional priority.
“The committees are free to hear pero ang priority at focus natin ay yung revenue bills para mabayaran ang magagandang programa ng gobyerno at yung budget. Eh hindi pa tayo tapos sa dalawang yun,” Cayetano said.
The House Speaker added that despite his issues, the hearing will be open to the public.
“But we will get to it. I guarantee to you we will get to it and we will have fair and open hearings,” Cayetano added
