A 38-year-old Emirati and his son died as the father was trying to save the 7-year-old boy while swimming at an Abu Dhabi beach.
The tragedy happed on Saturday night and police divers managed to recover their bodies after hours of searching on the waters.
The Arabic language daily Emarat Al Youm did not identify the two but quoted a police spokesman as saying: “The father was trying to rescue his son who was drowning while swimming last night… he could not save him and both drowned.”
Police appealed for the public to take extra care when going to beaches and for parents to watch their children and ensure they do not go to the sea on their own.
