Duterte bound for Japan to witness new emperor’s enthronement

President Rodrigo Duterte will be flying to Japan to witness the enthronement ceremony of the country’s new emperor.

The Presidential Communications Operations Office said on Sunday that Duterte will leave on Monday, a day before Emperor Naruhito’s scheduled enthronement.

PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar, however, announced that he has no other details about the President’s Japan trip.

Duterte previously said that he is mulling to attend the enthronement ceremony because Japan is one of the countries who consistently help the Philippines.

Naruhito’s father, Emperor Akihito abdicated his throne early thus year beacuse of health reasons.

Akihito was the first emperor to abdicate the throne in 200 years.
