DUBAI: Admit it. You’ve lost or misplaced at least two, even three, Nol cards from the time you started riding the Dubai Metro; and you probably have four stashed in your bags and pockets somewhere. It’s nerve-wracking indeed to be at the metro gates and realize you don’t have your Nol card with you.
No worries. This will all be a thing of the past as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has embarked on a digitalization program called “Virtual Nol card” where all you need to do is go to the RTA app, type in details of your Nol card and voila, you’re good to go!
“You don’t anymore have to carry your Nol card with you,” Ahmed Hasan Mahboub, RTA Smart Services Department’s executive director said.
You would need to enable a Near-Field Communication (NFC) short-range wireless connectivity in your mobile phone to make it work.
You can also top up your virtual Nol card using your phone. Full roll-out is scheduled for third quarter of 2020.
