Philippine Airlines has assured its passengers that its meat dishes being served in flight are free of African Swine Fever.
The airline also said food waste is being used as compost and not being served to animals.
The Philippine flag carrier explained that food wastes from flights are being collected and fermented for compost purposes.
“Philippine Airlines (PAL) assures that pork meat dishes loaded and served in flight are free of African Swine Fever. Food wastes are not being used as swine feed,” PAL said in a statement.
The Agriculture Department has declared isolated ASF outbreaks in the country, but assured there is no nationwide epidemic.
The Bureau of Animal Industry has previously said feeding food wastes from airlines, sea vessels, hotels and markets to animals could have been the cause of ASF virus entering the country.
