7 foreign nationals arrested at NAIA over POGO-linked kidnapping cases

The Philippine National Police have arrested seven suspects allegedly involved in kidnapping cases at the Ninoy Aquino International Aiport (NAIA).

The PNP identified them as  Chen Xin, Liu Chen, Yang Shuwen, Wei Ching, Zhang Lee and Qi Long — all Chinese nationals;  another suspect, Yu Jhong Ruei was from Taiwan.

According to the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group, the suspects abducted Xu Jinming, Xu Huanbo and Ou Kailang as they tried to leave the country after working as offshore gaming employees.

The victims wanted to leave because of salary issues at the Philipine Offshore Gaming Operation (POGO) hub they used to work in. They asked for help from four of the suspects to process their travel documents.

“Noong time na nag-aabutan na, forcibly isinasakay sila sa van. Naalarma ang mga tao doon. Ang Aviation Security Group (sa NAIA), doon sila rumesponde,” the PNP told ABS-CBN News. “Supposedly tutulungan silang makaalis at mabigyan ng travel documents pero at the end sila pa ang kukuha,” the PNP added.

The seven suspects are now facing charges of kidnapping for ransom and serious illegal detention.  Authorities are also looking into the possibility on whether the POGO company is also involved in kidnapping activities. (Trish Tan)
