AFP ready to help PNP and DOJ track down released henious crime convicts

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is ready to assist the Philippine National Police in tracking those henious convicts that were freed from the national penitentiary under the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA).

“We are here, ready to render assistance and give support to the DOJ, the PNP, and other relevant agencies of government when so requested,” AFP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo said in a statement as per a report from the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Arevalo said the AFP is committed to ensure the safety of the community and justice will be served as this is in pursuit of their mandate to protect and secure the people and the state.

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier ordered to re-arrest those who have been freed, thus giving them 15 days to surrender and submit themselves to the nearest police station or to the military.

DOJ data showed that 1,914 heinous crime convicts were released under the GCTA law since 2014.
