PH Embassy in US advises Filipinos to prepare for Hurricane Dorian

The Philippine Embassy in Washington DC, USA has advised Filipino communities along the path of Hurricane Dorian to be on alert and prepared at all times. 
 
In an advisory they issued on Friday, the embassy told them to monitor the movement of the storm and heed the warnings of local officials as it became an “extremely dangerous” Category 4 hurricane. 
 
The National Hurricane Center said its maximum sustained winds now is near 130 miles per hour or 215 kilometers per hour. 
 
Its location, as of its 8:30 p.m. advisory issued on Friday, Aug. 30, is about 645 kilometers east of the northwestern Bahamas and 925 kilometers east of West Palm Beach in Florida. 
 
It is expected to make a landfall in Jacksonville, Florida, where approximately 25,000 individuals of Filipino origin lives there. 
 
A total estimate of 143,000 individuals of Filipino origin is in Florida. 
 
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis already declared a state of emergency for countries in Dorian’s path. 
 
“The Philippine Embassy will continue to monitor developments and coordinate with the Filipino and Filipino-American communities in these areas.”
 
Meanwhile, the UAE Consulate General in New York has announced its efforts to evacuate their citizens from the hurricane’s path.
