President Rodrigo Duterte said Filipinos should not rely on religion when it comes to family planning.
The President proposed the revival of family planning in the country during the 31st anniversary of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.
“Ibalik ninyo ‘yung family planning,” the President proposed adding that religion cannot help in the reproductive health of women.
“Hindi ko sabihin na ano. But do not place too much importance about religion. Tutok ka lang sa Diyos. When you are in a (moral?) quandary, do not go to your religion. It cannot help you. Maniwala kayo,” Duterte said, as per a report from ABS-CBN.
The 74-year-old President furthered that people should go directly “to your God and pray and ask for guidance…”
Issues on reproductive health have been debated for decades by the church and the state in the Philippines.
