Judge who sentenced Antonio Sanchez calls his possible release a ‘mockery’

The Pasig Regional Trial Court Judge who sentenced former Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez to seven life imprisonment isn’t happy with reports of his looming release from prison.

Former Pasig Judge Harriet Demetriou led the trial on the killing of two University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) students in 1993.

“I will question first what is their interpretation of the law. Are people convicted of heinous crimes included or excluded? Wag nilang insultuhin ang intelligence ng Filipino public,” Demetriou told ABS-CBN News.

Demetriou believed that Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo has a hand on the Sanchez case.

The retired judge also slammed Senator Ronald Bato Dela Rosa’s “second chance” remarks.

“Binigyan mo ba ng second chance ang mga pinagtotokhang mo… na mga maliliit na tao? You have a convoluted definition of justice,” she said.

Demetriou added that what they are doing with Sanchez’ case is a mockery of the country’s justice system.
