USD 12,000 concealed in air cargo intercepted at NAIA

A total of USD 12,000 (Dhs 44,074.80) of undeclared money was seized by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) after it was detected in a package from Arkansas, USA on Wednesday, July 31.

According to the information that BOC at NAIA posted on their Facebook page, the undeclared money was “neatly wrapped in aluminum foil possible to conceal the subject currency from customs scrutiny”.

The package was shipped thru FedEx.

According to BOC, the money will be seized for violating Section 1400 in relation to Section 1113 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

Importing or exporting money exceeding USD 10,000 is allowed provided that the amount and currency are declared in writing. Information such as its source and the purpose of the transport of such currency must be provided.

BOC has referred this to their legal service for further investigation. If found to have probable cause, the consignee and the licensed customs broker will be charged for violating Customs Law.
