President Rodrigo Duterte said he wants guns for firefighters to help in addressing peace and order concerns in rebel-infested areas.
Speaking at the Bureau of Fire and Protection event Thursday, Duterte said he was enraged over the incident in Negros province that killed at least 4 policemen.
“So sabi ko sa inyo, paisyuhan ko man kayo ng baril, kayong mga bumbero. Pagtapos iyang tubig tao naman hanapin nyo, patayin ninyo ‘yung tubig, tapos tao,” Duterte said.
He also wants firefighters to work with the military and the police in ensuring peace and order.
“You are not limited to just fire. You have to go around and help the police and the military. You must help, and you must have killed the enemy, kasi ang enemy ninyo papatayin talaga kayo,” Duterte said.
The President vowed to buy new firetrucks to upgrade the current system.
He even assured firefighters to get quality firetrucks and not the cheapest ones in the bidding system.
