Third Filipino pilgrim dies during hajj in Mecca

The National Commission for Muslim Filipinos announced the third Filipino fatality in the sacred hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia attended by 6,973 pilgrims.

The NCMF said that 70-year-old Bailani Sakandal Dalandas died en route to the Masjidil Haraam in Makkah (Mecca) on Tuesday. 

The woman was in a bus among other pilgrims when she complained difficulty of breathing. She later succumbed to cardiac arrest. 

Medical workers brought her body to the King Faisal Hospital.

Dalandas was the third elderly Filipino pilgrim to have succumbed to cardiac arrest in the current hajj.

The NCMF has expressed grief and sympathy over the demise of the three pilgrims, saying “all mankind truly belong to God and to Him we shall all return.”

The hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam with some pilgrims hoping to be buried in Saudi Arabia in case of death.
