A barangay tanod (village watchman) in Antique Province died after accidentally swallowing a live tilapia fish.
The victim was identified as Roger Marcelino, 49, a resident of Barangay Tagudtud South in Bugasong town, Antique, as per GMA’s 24 Oras report.
Marcelino was fishing at Paliwan River, which is adjacent to his house.
The family said Marcelino usually puts the fish he catches in his mouth so that it won’t get away while he tries to catch more fish.
He must have accidentally swallowed the fish that was probably moving vigorously.
He ran to their house to ask for help because he could not breathe while the fish was stuck in his throat.
His wife tried to remove the fish but she failed.
He was brough to Bugsaong Medicare hospital but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
