COA eyes legal action vs. Teo, Montano over ‘carinderia project’

The Commission on Audit (COA) said that legal actions should be filed against former Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo and former Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Chief Cesar Montano due to violations of the government’s procurement law.

State auditors said in its report that the TPB made P80.64 million in payments to Marylindbert International Inc. without supporting documents as required by law.

The budget was also charged to the 2017 TPB budget, but it was never included in the Annual Procurement Plan.

COA now urges TPB to file legal actions to the two former officials due to these onerous deals and contracts.

Tourism Chief Berna Romulo Puyat has suspended the project after finding out that TPB paid Php81 million despite anomalous circumstance.

Montano resigned June last year after the discovery of the anomalous contract.

Teo resigned a month earlier after the controversial Php60 Million PTV advertisement deals.
