Pilot trainee from Saudi along with Filipino instructor reported missing in the Philippines

The Saudi Embassy in Manila reports that the authorities in the Philippines have amplified their search for an aviation student from Saudi who has already gone missing for a week together along with a Filipino instructor during their training program on their plane.

The last known whereabouts of 23-year-old Abdullah Khalid Al Sherif who’s currently studying at an aviation school in the Philippines was during a training flight last May 18 around the Occidental Mindoro area together with his Filipino instructor.

The Saudi Embassy has since been working hand in hand with the Philippine authorities to step up their search for the two aforementioned individuals. “The Saudi Foreign Ministry constantly follows up with the embassy on search for the student. We will continue to make efforts to search for him in coordination with the Philippine Interior Ministry, the Defence Ministry, the Civil Aviation Authority and other agencies concerned,” as per the official statement from the Saudi Embassy.

After the plane’s disappearance from the radar around the Occidental Mindoro area, the trainee’s family has speculated that the aircraft that their son was in might have been hijacked. Abdul Majuid, Abdullah’s brother is now in the Philippines to help in the search. “Evidence and information available to us indicate that the aircraft has been hijacked,” said Abdul Majuid as per Saudi news portal Ajel.
