Athens-based daily Kathemerini said the Filipina just file last week a rape case against Nikos Metaxas, a Greek Cypriot Army captain, that allegedly took place in 2017.
The rape claim is a new twist to the series of at least seven murders that Metaxas admitted to have committed.
The Filipina maid saw what happened to the fellow Filipinas killed, she filed a formal complaint against the 35-year old suspect.
She claimed she was raped in 2017 and that she had “feelings of guilt” for not finding the courage to report to the police what happened the suspect did to her.
Cyprus media unearthed police records that Metaxas “pre-emptively” filed a complaint against the Filipina maid on February 28, 2017. He said he was receiving threats from the Filipina, whom he described as a former girlfriend seeking revenge
“The suspect said in a written statement that the two had consensual sex and he simply wanted to alert police in case the woman, whom he had named in the report, attempted to accuse him of rape,” Kathemerini reported.
A member of the Filipino community commented that police officers in Cyprus were reputably deaf on domestic workers’ rape complaints.
Lissa Jataas, founder of female migrant domestic workers group Obreras Empowered, said rape victims are reluctant to report crimes against them because of a history of complaints falling on deaf ears.
