Filipinos showcase PH culture at Jeddah festival

Filipinos impressed visitors of the Second Festival of Nations at the King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, from March 31st to April 1st, as they showcased Philippine tourism, music, food, and arts through a Mindanao-inspired exhibit.

Headed by Aduljabbar Basher Condar Macapodi, the team that set up the exhibit also showcased one of the traditional musical instruments of the Muslim ethno-linguistic groups in Maranao and Maguindanao, the kulintang.

Kulintang is composed of small, horizontally-arranged gongs, suspended gongs agung and large hanging gongs called gandingan.

Filipino art books and posters of various tourist destinations in the Philippines provided by the Jeddah PCG were also on displayed at the booth.

To show their support, representatives from the Philippine Consulate in Jeddah, including Vice Consul Alfred Kristoffer Guiang, visited the booth.

The Festival of Nations is organized by the King Abdulaziz University to give foreign students an opportunity to promote their country’s culture and tourism.
