Five Filipino seafarers were declared missing after their vessel caught fire off the Falkland Islands, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported.
According to DFA, the Filipinos were among 69 crew-members of a Taiwanese fishing vessel that caught fire off the islands on February 11.
Ambassador to the United Kingdom Antonio Lagdameo said that the Philippine Embassy in London is still trying to get more information about the incident.
Lagdameo added that the Embassy is also closely coordinating with relevant authorities and the manning agency of the Filipino seafarers and is ready to provide assistance.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) remains hopeful that five Filipino seafarers will be found,” DFA said in a statement.
