Here’s how UAE, PH fare in corruption index ranking

The UAE ranked as one of the least corrupt countries in the world while the Philippines showed little improvement in fighting corruption, a list released by a global corruption watchdog showed.

According to the Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) for 2018 list, the UAE ranked as the 23rd least corrupt country in the world with a CPI score of 70.

The Philippines, meanwhile, found itself in the bottom half of the list at rank 99 out of 180 countries with a CPI score of 36. The country was tied with Albania, Bahrain, Colombia, Tanzania and Thailand.

Despite the low ranking, the Philippines still improved from its 111th rank in 2017.

The least corrupt countries in the world include Denmark, New Zealand, Finland, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, the Netherlands, Canada, and Luxembourg.

The most corrupt countries, meanwhile, include Somalia, Syria, South Sudan, Yemen, North Korea, Sudan, Guinea Bissau, and Equatorial Guinea.

The annual corruption index uses a scale of 0 to 100 where 100 is deemed as very clean while 0 is considered to be highly corrupt.

The average score in this year’s list is 43 with more than 66 percent of the 180 countries scoring below 50.
