Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Hjayceelyn M. Quintana urged the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) to explore development of untapped renewable energy sources such as ocean, hydropower, geothermal and biomass.
The Ambassador said this as she delivered the Philippines’ statement during the High-Level Segment titled, “Taking Stock of the Progress” at the Ninth Session of the Assembly of IRENA held from January 11 to 13 at the St. Regis Hotel, Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi.
“It is the Philippines’ desire for its untapped renewable energy resources to be developed in the most sustainable way,” Ambassador Quintana said.
The Ambassador also extended the Philippines’ sincere appreciation for the excellent leadership of outgoing IRENA Director-General Adnan Z. Amin, and the assistance provided by IRENA to the country.
IRENA is an intergovernmental organization that supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future, and serves as a platform for international cooperation, a center of excellence, and a repository of policy, technology, resource and financial knowledge on renewable energy. IRENA promotes the widespread adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy, including bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, ocean, solar and wind energy.
IRENA currently comprises 160 member states and 23 states in accession.
