5 men attack, steal Dh1.6 million from sales exec in Dubai

Five men in Dubai were arrested after they attacked and stole a massive amount money from a sales executive in broad daylight.

According to court records, the incident happened in September when the Chinese sales executive closed a deal with a trading company and placed money worth Dh1.17 million in his backpack, reported Gulf News.

The sales executive then parked his electric bike and crossed the street when a group of five men suddenly approached him.

The five men sprayed pepper spray on the man’s face and then started punching him.

The suspects then tried to steal his backpack but the Chinese men held onto it which caused the bag to rip. When the bag got torn up, the money fell on the ground and the men were able to rob Dh1.6 million, leaving a bundle worth Dh100,000.

The victim immediately reported the crime to the police.

Authorities then started an investigation which led to the arrest of the five suspects — three Pakistanis and two Afghans who are all aged between 27 and 42.

The suspects were charged with physical violence and theft.

Before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Wednesday, the five suspects pleaded not guilty.

However, a police lieutenant claimed to prosecutors that the arrested men told him during questioning that there are more suspects but they still remain at large. They also allegedly rode two cars and attacked the Chinese man when they saw him. They then went to Al Ain to split the money.

The victim’s lawyer filed a civil lawsuit and said that his client is seeking a Dh21,000 in temporary compensation against damages suffered.

The court will appoint lawyers to defend the suspects when it reconvenes on December 23.
