Pilot admits being heavily intoxicated before flight

A Japan Airlines co-pilot was arrested after admitting that he is 10 times over the legal limit for alcohol right before his London to Tokyo flight.

The co-pilot, identified as Katsutoshi Jitsukawa, was reported by a driver of crew bus in London who smelled alcohol from the co-pilot’s breath, reported NBC News.

Following the report, Jitsukawa was subjected to a breath test which he failed.

The test showed that the co-pilot had “189 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood in his system, almost 10 times the 20 milligrams limit for a pilot.”

Jitsukawa was immediately arrested and pleaded guilty before the Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court in west London and will be detained until his sentence is given on November 29.

In his admission, Jitsukawa said he drank two bottles of wine and one pitcher of beer the night before.
