A Filipina testified against a man who is facing assault and verbal abuse charges for attacking two police officers.
The Dubai Court of First Instance heard the case of the unemployed Spanish man who was reportedly intoxicated when he was restrained by authorities, reported Khaleej Times.
Court records stated that the incident happened in March 23.
The two police officers said that they tried to restrain the suspect by putting him in handcuffs but he resisted and began shouting foul language towards the officers.
The Filipina, who was accompanying the man when the incident happened, stood as a witness and said that before the police came, they came from a nightclub and took a cab afterwards. The accused assaulted the driver causing the latter to call the police.
She added that the man was acting aggressively when the cops arrived.
The taxi driver said he was driving the accused and his companion to Dubai Investment Park when the man suddenly punched him for no apparent reason.
The accused admitted that he was indeed intoxicated that night and that he has forgotten what happened during the incident.
The trial was adjourned to November 5.
