The Ajman Department of Economic Development (ADED) ordered the closure of five shops in the emirate for offering customers fake sales and discounts.
The shops, some of which are supermarkets, were reportedly displaying posters offering customers fake 80 percent discounts on products to lure them into entering the stores and purchasing products, reported Khaleej Times.
Aside from the five shops, 52 others were fined while 62 other outlets were issued warnings to give them the opportunity to correct their system.
In Ajman, stores that will employ promotional offers will need to secure permit from ADED. The permit will only be issued once the store meets all standards set by the authority. Violators will be slapped with a hefty fine.
