An overseas Filipina worker (OFW) fell from the fourth floor of a building in Saudi Arabia while escaping her employer due to homesickness.
OFW Edith, not her real name, tried to escape her employer’s flat using a rope in May 2018. The OFW, however, fell while trying to leave her employer’s building, reported GMA News.
“Naho-homesick daw po siya sa kanyang pamilya kaya siya tumakas nang amin na siyang makausap sa hospital,” said the OFW’s case officer, Mary Anne Hipe.
The Philippine government has repatriated Edith back to the Philippines after several OFWs reported her case to the Philippine Consulate in Jeddah.
Consul General Edgar Badajos reminded aspiring OFWs to ensure that they have strong determination and resilience before working abroad to avoid losing will during employment due to homesickness.
“Siya ‘yung classic example ng HSW (household service worker) na nag-decide umuwi dahil ayon sa kanya na-homesick daw siya at nawalan ng interes magtrabaho,” said Badajos.
