Any arrest that will be made to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV is illegal, says Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan.
The Liberal senator said this after President Rodrigo Duterte revoked Trillanes’ amnesty “effective immediately” in his Proclamation 572 signed on August 31.
He also appealed to the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police not to take action as the revocation of the amnesty could mean Trillanes may be arrested any time.
Pangilinan said in a statement that an amnesty proclamation requires the agreement of both Houses of Congress and until the House of Representatives and the Senate approves, the arrest cannot be executed immediately.
The senator added the proclamation has no justifiable basis and that the current administration is more concerned with silencing its critics than solving impending crises.
